Kabul Municipality kicks off the Construction of a New Park in District 15.

15th May 2019, Kabul. Kabul Municipality has started the construction of public space in the city. Located in District 15, “Pansat Family Park” will be a new public space available for residents, kids, women but especially for school students. The installations of the new park include a futsal pitch, a volleyball court and will be irrigated and powered by a modern solar lighting system.

This project was selected by the residents of District 15 through a process of public consultations in the framework of City for All (CFA), a flagship program of the Urban National Priority Program (UNPP). The creation of this park is part of the Strategic Nahia Action Plan (SNAP), which is a five-year strategy which provides an overview of the current urban situation and plans of the city; sets out the community’s common vision for local urban development; and includes future plans and Capital Investment Plans (CIPs) based on the priority projects identified by communities and aligned with government projects.

During the inauguration ceremony, Mrs. Amina Mayar, Deputy Head of the Nahia stressed that “neighbors of this district, especially students, did not have access to a public space. This park will change the lives of our students as it is located between the girls and boys’ high school”.

UN-Habitat is pleased to technically support this initiative as public spaces remain a crucial driver for social cohesion, improved quality of life and inclusiveness as enshrined in the New Urban Agenda. The new park will benefit more than 6,000 residents and is co-funded between Kabul Municipality and USAID through City for All with a total cost of $90,000.
