Clean water for better and healthier life in Bamyan

21 June Bamyan. Water is essential for life and pure drinking water is a blessing. Unfortunately, people of Zargaran District 3 in Bamyan were deprived of access to drinking water and they had to fetch it from far away. Zargaran is an area informally built over the hills where over 500 informal houses are located making water fetching, mainly the responsibility of women at the household.

Houses being built on a hilly area makes it more difficult for ladies to bring water on their shoulders and climb high hills. The lack of water has caused several health issues to the population of this area.

Considering this, the Afghanistan Urban Peacebuilding Programme(AUPP), with the financial support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, has supported the community of this underdeveloped area to gain access to clean drinking water.

“My daughter had kidney stones because of drinking contaminated water and we had to pay frequent visits to the physician. Now she is getting better day by day. We are thankful to AUPP for implementing this project here” said Halima Rezayee, secretary of the Community Development Council 3 in Bamyan.

This water supply project has brought positive changes in all dweller’s life. After the implementation of the project, they have uninterrupted access to clean drinking water and don’t have to bear the hardships of bringing water from distant areas or to deal with the negative health consequences of drinking polluted water anymore.
