Kandahar: For the first time a Women’s Park is constructed in Kandahar. Women are using the park for both social and economic purposes. Income generating activities are ongoing to improve their economic situation. In addition, women from the whole district are visiting the area for socialization and entertainment, picnic, meeting other females and relatives, sharing their thoughts and familial problems and finding solutions for different issues. Discussions with the Municipality officials are ongoing for full authority of the park to women in the near future.

Ms. Zarghona, the head of CDC 131 states, “Before the construction, there was no sign of any park in this area and we were facing many difficulties. One of the major problems was the lack of places for women to get together, generate income, and socialist. Before we could visit this place, but we were uncomfortable and unsecured. Now, the area is covered by boundary walls and is equipped and designed for meeting and playground for children.“

Zarghona further states, “I think that through the establishment of the park, the chance to many women to make their own future and contribute to their household income generating activities will be given”. Many women from the district are coming to the park every day which will positively impact the businesses. Many women are interested to take part in the activities in the park and to empower and support other women in Kandahar through this project. It is a great sign of development and great accomplishment in a city. Zarghona says that as a woman she emphasizes the great achievement and the positive development of women’s everyday life that the park has provided for Kandahar women.
